Last week I received an unusual call to help repair some air brake issues on a 1973 greyhound bus that was converted into a camper. While I have experience in things like this it’s not something that I usually work on, but the caller Randol was very positive and polite and I felt like I should do my best to get him going seeing that they had just purchased a new house and they just needed to get the bus to their new home.

When I arrived at the bus I could tell that it had been sitting awhile and was going to need some TLC if we were going to get it moved. The RV was sank into the ground, the air bags wouldn’t fill, and the brakes wouldn’t release. I needed to get under the RV if I was going to solve any of these issues so with a shovel and a little determination I dug a trench under the bus and crawled under on my chest (it was very tight😅)

On the second day of the call, after a local towing company had pulled the RV from where it had been resting for a couple of years, I was able to get the brakes released and the air bags inflated, and at that point we were East Bound and down to get this 1973 Detroit 8V71 powered greyhound to its new home.

It was such an amazing experience to be involved with, this bus has such iconic American history to it and getting to see it run down the road to its new home while that V8 Detroit screamed is something I will always remember.

I just wanted to say thank you to Randol of Blair and Sons and his son Shane for the opportunity to work with you both on this, it was a pleasure meeting both of you.
