On August 7, 2025, Math Kangaroo USA – Texas marked a historic milestone by hosting its first-ever State Awards Ceremony at the Texas State Capitol in Austin. The event brought together nearly 300 attendees, including award-winning students, their families, educators, legislators, and community leaders, to celebrate excellence in mathematics and academic achievement.

The ceremony was graciously hosted by Jenna Yoon, acclaimed author of the Lia Park middle grade fantasy series, whose professionalism and enthusiasm helped make the program both engaging and memorable.

Distinguished guests included Representative Caroline Harris Davila, Jim Morales, Legislative Director for State Senator Donna Campbell, M.D., Leander City Councilman Mike Herrera, Texas Parents United President Laura Davis, and Think Academy, a valued sponsor of the event. Their words of encouragement underscored the importance of fostering strong math education and recognizing young talent across the state.

In 2025, Texas achieved a significant milestone with 3,279 Math Kangaroo participants, representing an increase of 874 students from 2024 and placing Texas in the Top 3 nationwide for participation. During the ceremony, 81 Texas students who ranked in the Top 3 statewide for their respective grade levels were honored for their outstanding performance.

Following the award presentations, participants and guests gathered for commemorative photographs inside the historic House Chamber and on the Capitol’s South Steps, creating lasting memories of this inaugural occasion.

Math Kangaroo USA Texas Region extends its sincere appreciation to all students, parents, educators, sponsors, and volunteers whose dedication made this event possible. This ceremony stands as a testament to the power of community, education, and the pursuit of academic excellence.
