# # # Laptop came in because the customer said it would not power on.

But once we got it on the bench…

It powered on for us with no issue.

That happens more than people think.

Sometimes the problem is intermittent.
Sometimes it depends on the charger.
Sometimes it depends on the battery state.
Sometimes the machine just decides to behave the second it gets to the shop 😄

But the customer also had another concern:

The laptop kept losing the correct time.

So we checked into that too.

On this model, there was **no separate CMOS battery**. The system relies on the **main internal battery** to help maintain that information.

So we ran a Windows battery report using **powercfg** to check the main battery health.

The report checked out fine.

The laptop powered on.
The main battery checked out fine.
No separate CMOS battery was found in this model.

💡 A computer acting fine one time does not always mean the customer is wrong. Intermittent issues are real, and sometimes you have to test the machine from multiple angles to figure out what is actually going on.

HP laptop came in with busted hinges… but the repair changed direction.

This HP laptop was dropped off because it had hinge damage.

And if you have ever seen a laptop hinge start separating from the frame, you already know how fast that can get worse.

But after looking at the machine and going over the options, the customer decided not to move forward with the hinge repair.

That did not mean the job was done.

Sometimes the best repair is not always fixing the laptop itself.

Sometimes the goal is getting the customer access to their files, passwords, pictures, documents, and important information so they can move on to another machine.

This laptop needed a battery check… and a Windows 11 upgrade it technically did not support.

This laptop came into the shop because the customer wanted the battery checked.

So we started there.

🔋 Checked the battery health
⚡ Checked charging behavior
📊 Reviewed the battery condition
🧪 Tested the machine

But while we had it in the shop, the customer also wanted Windows 11 installed.

The catch?

This laptop was not officially supported for Windows 11.

That means Microsoft does not list the hardware as meeting the normal Windows 11 requirements.

But with the customer’s approval, we were able to perform an unsupported Windows 11 upgrade.

💡 Unsupported upgrades are not for every computer, and they are not something you should blindly force on every old machine.

But when the customer understands the risks and the machine is still usable, it can sometimes help extend the life of a laptop.
