Shelf sitters!

If you've never made one before, today is your day.

A shelf sitter is just a small, flat piece of wood (or MDF) with a routed groove cut into the bottom so it can "sit" on a shelf or ledge. You can find them at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Amazon — they're inexpensive and SO satisfying to letter on.

The thing I love about shelf sitters for beginners is that they're small — which means less surface to fill and less intimidation. If a letter goes a little wobbly, a tiny bit of touch-up paint fixes it in seconds.
