Mayor Andy Schor today released an update regarding Operation Slow Down, an initiative launched in September of 2020 to reduce speeding and reckless driving behaviors on Lansing streets. The program was launched due to an increased number of residents who expressed concern over significant speeding throughout the city, specifically in neighborhoods. Mayor Andy Schor’s Office, the Lansing Police Department and City of Lansing Public Service Department put together resources to assist residents when they see speeding in their neighborhood.
Since its implementation, Operation Slow Down officers have issued a total of 354 traffic citations for violations including speeding, improper passing and failure to stop. Lansing Police Officers have also given verbal warnings and have helped educate drivers when appropriate.
The City of Lansing has received a total of six complete and signed petitions since Operation Slow Down’s implementation. Based on these petitions, the following streets will undergo a speed study later this year: Radford Street, Moores River Drive, Kendalwood Drive, Cleo Street, Ray Street and Balzer Street.
For more information on traffic calming, to request traffic calming measures and/or request an LPD speed trailer in your neighborhood, visit www.lansingmi.gov/traffic, or call Mayor Andy Schor’s Office at 517-483-4141 ext. one to speak with the Citizen Advocate.
