REAL ID 04/23/2025

The REAL ID requirement for domestic air travel within the United States, goes into effect on May 7, 2025. To travel domestically present either: (1) A REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or (2) REAL ID identification card, or (3) a valid country passport to board domestic flights. If you are a lawfully present non-U.S. citizen, including permanent and non-permanent residents, you are eligible to apply for a REAL ID driver's license or ID card or turn your current Michigan driver's license or state ID into a REAL ID.

Good News! President Biden announced executive actions that will allow certain noncitizen spouses and children of U.S. citizens to obtain work authorization and legal permanent resident (LPR) status and provide eligible DACA recipients and other Dreamers with a path to receive a work visa.

Biden Announces Immigration Protections for Up to 550,000 Spouses and Children of US Citizens Biden announced "parole in place" for undocumented spouses and children of U.S. citizens, which will streamline the green card process.

APPLY EARLY FOR MI DRIVERS LICENSE RENEWAL: Individuals with pending I-765 applications are eligible to apply for a temporary renewal of their driver’s license. The Secretary of State’s office will have to submit the individual’s information for a SAVE verification check and the temporary license will not be issued until the SAVE check comes back. This process is taking a long time in SOME cases (4 months). Drivers License Renewal applicants are encouraged to apply early to avoid a lapse in their DL validity.
