It's June and it's important to focus on your UNIQUE FAMILY NEEDS in the event of an emergency.

Every household is different. Is there an infant or young child in your home? Does someone in your family have a medical condition that requires medication? Do you have a pet? Before disaster strikes, talk to your family about your household’s unique needs. Make a list of special items you may need in a disaster.

Do1Thing is a non-profit organization, based in Lansing, that promotes emergency preparedness for individuals and businesses. The goal is to build disaster resilient communities by using a whole community approach to preparedness.

All month in May, we asked you to make sure you, your family, and those you count on are prepared no matter where you are. Emergencies don’t always happen when everyone is “safe” at home. This month, did you, your family, neighbors:

✅ Locate evacuation routes or shelter locations at work or school?
✅ Ask your employer/school to hold emergency training/drills or provide information on what to do in the case of emergency? Does your college-aged student know what to do?
✅ Pack and emergency kit for the office, school, or car? Did you make one for people who count on you like your parents or neighbors?
✅ Make a plan to ensure your pets/animals are safe by designating a neighbor/friend in the event you cannot make it home?
✅ Discuss any plans with local law enforcement/fire/emergency management?
