Atlas Canine Training

We’ve skipped a few Working Dog Wednesdays. Between myself being sick, my partner being sick, and Cricket having what we think was mange, training fell to the wayside.

Over the next few weeks, I’m hoping to do some hardcore training boot camp to get her back to where I want her to be for her age (which we are thinking is actually a couple weeks younger than what we were told).

Also, she gets her rabies and final distemper shots next week! So in a few weeks, we’ll finally be able to do more exposure in public spaces!

Training a service dog is no joke. The amount of time, thought, and effort that goes into training these dogs is immense. Service dogs take one to two years of training before they are considered ‘fully trained’.

This dedication of time and energy is why bringing untrained, unmanageable dogs into non-pet friendly spaces is so dangerous and frustrating to service dog handlers. Months or years worth of training can be completely unwound within a matter of minutes.

The holiday season can be a fun time to spoil your pet and let them know how loved they are. However, there are many items that we keep in our homes during this season that can be harmful, or even fatal, to our pets. While some symptoms of ingestion can be as mild as drooling or an upset stomach, it is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to these foods and plants. In case of accidental ingestion, make sure you have the information for your local emergency vet clinic handy.
