What's on the IBEW Aptitude Math Test

The IBEW (NJATC) aptitude math section is 33 algebra-and-functions questions in 46 minutes and no calculator is allowed. Expect linear equations, factoring/quadratics, expressions, exponents, and word problems, plus occasional graphs/tables and number series.

What you'll see in the math section:

•Algebra & equations: solving for a variable, simplifying expressions, order of operations (PEMDAS).

•Linear equations / functions: "If y = 2x + 3, find y when x = 4."

•Factoring & quadratics: factoring expressions like 5p² – 8pq – 4q²; recognizing patterns like difference of squares.

•Exponents / roots / powers: evaluating expressions with exponents and square roots.

•Word problems / applied algebra: multi-step story problems and real-world scenarios.

•Graphs & tables: interpreting graphs/tables and sometimes finding slope or matching an equation to a graph/table.

•Number series / sequences: pattern-based sequences (often with mixed operations).

•Ratios & proportions: straightforward ratio/proportion problems appear in prep guides.

Logistics you need to know:

33 questions, 46 minutes; no calculator; you'll get scratch paper (bring a pencil).

Time pressure is real: Practice timed tests to avoid spending too long on one question.

Fast prep checklist

Drill linear equations, factoring, and order of operations until you can do them quickly by hand.

Practice interpreting graphs/tables and number series patterns.

Do untimed practice first, then timed sets to build speed without a calculator.

IBEW24 WILL redefine, remeasure, and reinforce what labor and community is. Why, because its roots clearly line every intersection in Baltimore and beyond; be it people, power poles, or politics. How, through its soul! EWMC24 has and will continue to bear that cross uphill with room for any and all to bear it with us. Opportunity is hard work and intention, not a lottery ticket.

EWMC24 has been meeting at Red Emma for our Master Prep study group every Sunday at 12pm. Bringing residential construction into organized labor to further the mission to organize every electrical worker and other trades remains the goal. If you desire to take your career further come thru.

It was great to hear .smalls_ perspective regarding the union movement, and hearing it from a young soldier that entirely understands that this movement is rooted in desiring a life that is self determined, unoppressed, fluid, and in sync with others you aspire the same.

Move forward young brother, and keep listening!

In Solidarity!
