Yesterday was the official end of Resusapet. A program Emily started for her 12th Birthday and she continued it until every fire station in Bucks County, some in Montgomery and NJ had lifesaving pet oxygen masks on board! The fundraising and delivery of the mask kits went on for two years and when Covid hit the shift went to pet food, Resusapet held drive through pet food delivery and then delivered to the homes of many who could not get out.
The official mission of Resusapet was completed!
In a crate in my basement 3 additional kits remained and yesterday the were delivered to Bristol Township, after speaking to Fire Chief Dippolito after the story was published last week about a dog whose life was saved because of Resusapet I asked if he could use the additional kits and he said absolutely! We dropped the kits off yesterday and got to speak to Chief Dippolito and the four firefighters that pulled the dog from the fire and resusated him using Emily's mask. Chief Dippolito also shared with us that the kits have been used multiple times when a pet is rescued and has smoke inhalation but this was the first one that the dog was unconscious and was revived.
This was the perfect ending to the mission of Resusapet! Thanks to all who helped, donated, hosted us at your Firestation events, community events and the media that covered us! This mission was a team effort and that team worked like a well oiled machine Carole Davis, myself, Emily and Emily's dad who now proudly watches her with pride from heaven, Randy Rilling

This is wonderful news!

Red Paw COO Lori Albright: In a world where the news is full of negativity, we are happy to bring something positive to you! Our partnership with the PFD is long & personal. So much so, that Red Paw’s founder isn’t here because she is working at her firehouse right now.

So, it is my honor, on behalf of Jen, to announce what we know will be a model for other departments and nonprofits in this city and for cities across this country! This type of creative forward thinking illustrates how nonprofit organizations and city departments can transcend. the challenges of unprecedented budget cuts, a global pandemic & historic flooding to address the needs of all the residents in Philly by leveraging the resources we have rather than cutting services due to limited resources. It's fitting that it’s happening in the city of firsts!

For the next month our responders will be training members of the CATs on best practices for dealing w families’ w pets to more efficiently, effectively & fully help the residents of Philly. We'll continue to have responders available during this time to avoid gaps in services. So on behalf of the more than 650K + residents in this city who have pets we thank Philadelphia Fire Department Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management & Commissioner Thiel for working on this with us, and thank you to all of our response partners for this collaborative effort.

Moving forward Red Paw will transition to the Red Paw Foundation and we will continue to provide food and supplies & pay for pet friendly hotel fees and raise funds for critical care for residents’ pets. We hope that in the months and years to come this partnership will become a model for other fire departments around the country.
