Music on the Lawn returned to LancasterHistory yesterday, bringing friends, families, and neighbors together for an evening of live music in James Buchanan’s backyard.
We kicked off our 2026 season by celebrating 20 years of Music For Everyone with a fantastic performance from Jordan & Mark Rast. Dr. Michael Jamanis of Music For Everyone also took us on a musical journey through history, using his violin to bring different eras to life - with the timeless sounds of Bach echoing through the trees of the Tanger Arboretum.
Meanwhile, Mezcla Ice Cream kept the crowd cool with plenty of delicious scoops. From blankets spread across the lawn to kids playing, neighbors catching up, and music filling the summer air, it was exactly the kind of evening this tradition is all about.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make our first Music on the Lawn concert of the season such a memorable one - and to our 2026 season sponsors, Mosaic, Ville Painters, and EHD Insurance, for helping make these community gatherings possible.

Summer vibes are back with Music on the Lawn at LancasterHistory!🪕 This laid-back event is perfect for music lovers of all ages. Bring your family and friends and enjoy live bands in James Buchanan’s backyard. With rock, jazz, folk, and more, there’s something for everyone! Our kickoff on Sunday, July 12, celebrates Music For Everyone's 20th anniversary and features a special bluegrass performance from Jordan Rast & Mark Rast. We'll also welcome local favorite Mezcla Ice Cream, who will serve delicious scoops while you enjoy the music!🍨

Calling all high school students! Do you want to help shape summer learning at LancasterHistory?
Join our education team to co-create new field trips and youth programs. During the week of July 6–10, 2026, you’ll tour all our sites, including Lancaster's newest museum, The Stevens & Smith Center, participate in test activities, and tell us what’s working, what needs fixing, and how to make programs better for students. We want to give young people the skills to dive into our community’s past and imagine the future they’ll build. This is your chance to make those programs your own. Our history won’t be complete without your voice! The application deadline is June 30.

Join LancasterHistory each Thursday in June from 10-11 am, as we read aloud nature-themed stories, followed by a fun craft or activity inspired by that week’s book. First up, on June 4, we’ll be reading “Beautiful Bats” by Linda Glaser, illustrated by Sharon Lane Holm.
