FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ballroom Icon Niambi E. Stanley Launches Fundraiser For Financial Crisis

LANCASTER, PA – May 2025 – Niambi E. Stanley, known to many as Niambi Prodigy, has launched a public fundraiser following the death of her mother in 2023 and a period of intense financial instability over the last 2 years. A revered figure in the LGBTQ+ ballroom scene, Niambi is now turning to the community she’s uplifted for over three decades to ask for support during one of the most difficult times of her life.

A trans advocate, artist, and mentor, Niambi's work spans activism, education, and cultural preservation. From founding the organization Trans-In-Formation to creating the mental health-centered series “Comments and Conversations,” she has consistently amplified the voices of Black and brown trans individuals.

“My mother was my foundation,” Niambi shared. “Her passing broke my heart and also destabilized my entire life. I’ve spent so long giving, mentoring, and surviving. Now, I need help to rebuild.”

The fundraiser—titled “Rebuild with Niambi: A Black Trans Icon’s Journey Back to Stability”—seeks to cover basic needs like housing, food, grief therapy, and continued community work. With over 33 years of influence in ballroom culture, Niambi’s story speaks to the broader struggles Black trans women face: systemic injustice, underemployment, and lack of access to safe support systems.

According to recent studies, Black trans women in the U.S. continue to experience some of the highest rates of homelessness, violence, and discrimination. Niambi’s work has always focused on combatting these realities through community empowerment, visibility, and healing.
