Monday, July 20th Update

As of Friday afternoon, all roadways in Manheim Township were fully open. There will be no additional updates regarding road closures.

MT Public Works and our tree service vendor continued working today on debris removal on public roadways and rights-of-way as well as in Township parks. This work will continue throughout the week.

Jaycee Park remains marked as CLOSED. Clean-up work was not completed today (Monday) as expected; crews should be working in the park on Tuesday so we can reopen the park. The Township respectfully requests that all residents adhere to this closing and do not enter the park for any reason for their own safety.

In Landis Woods Park, both entrances remain open, and the Boettcher House facility is safely accessible. Nature Day Camp returned to the Boettcher House today. HOWEVER, the remainder of Landis Woods Park continues to be marked as CLOSED until further notice, for safety reasons. All trails are blocked and the park is not safe for use due to the number of trees down and hanging branches. The Township respectfully requests that all residents adhere to this closing and do not enter the park (other than Boettcher House) for any reason for their own safety.

REMINDER that the Manheim Township Compost Park will continue to operate from 7:00am through 7:00pm each day this week, including Saturday and Sunday. The Compost Park is expected to return to regular hours starting on Monday July 27th.

The Compost Park also remains free of charge for Township residents through Sunday July 26th. REMINDER that the Compost Park is for residential use – not open to commercial contractors. Residents must present a MT Compost Park card indicating that they are a Township resident; Compost Park cards are available at the MT Municipal Office located at 1840 Municipal Drive, Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm.

Debris Management: Manheim Township Public Works and our contracted tree service vendor continued the process of ensuring each public roadway and the associated right-of-way is clear and safe. Today our crews moved through multiple neighborhoods impacted by the storm and will continue this work tomorrow.

AS A REMINDER - residents should NOT move any additional debris onto any public roadway or the public right-of-way. The Townships debris management plan has been put into place to make the public roadways and rights-of-way safe for the public: it is NOT intended to function as a clean-up service, or substitute for any work on private property that a resident would do or hire a contractor to do. We have been made aware of several residents who have moved storm debris intentionally into the right-of-way – PLEASE REFRAIN FROM DOING SO.

We are asking for the resident’s patience, as we continue the debris management process. MT Public Works will be going systematically neighborhood by neighborhood, street by street, starting with neighborhoods that were hardest hit by the storm. We will not be publishing a schedule for this work, as we will be reevaluating daily the progress we are making as well as the progress made by residents and contractors throughout the Township. We will continue to encourage residents to try and remove debris to the MT Compost Park if they are able.

Damage Assessment/Storm Damage Reporting: Manheim Township, in conjunction with the Lancaster County Department of Public Safety (LCDPS) wants to remind residents to report their storm damage from the 4th of July storm. Damage assessment and damage reporting does start at the local level, but the LCDPS has made a link available for residents to report their individual damages. Manheim Township is encouraging residents to use this link to report damage; please DO NOT call Manheim Township directly. The Township also encourages and reminds residents to contact their homeowner’s insurance to file their claim for damages; there is no expectation of public assistance for this storm event at this time.
