I am gathering data VW didn't get any of when vehicles were leaving the factories. Most Porsche and Audi cars had raw chassis measurements taken ever 4-8 cars. This gathered data was used to keep things dialed in during assembly, look at tooling wear for the panels, and was given to dealers and for technical use on repair and so on.
To add, I was the head fabricator and ran the Fab department at Singer Vehicle Design for 4 years(I am still a blithering idiot). My 4 years saw massive growth in the company as well it's abilities and learning curve, especially myself. One thing I found out was the 964 had the least amount of chassis data of all the platforms from G body to current by Porsche. We had to collect that data over the years as we went until we started getting a steady median data center established.
This data helped us fix really bad donors, improve the resto process and improve the chassis modification process. We then shared it to the public.
One thing I have noticed int eh mk1/2 world is the gate keeping of data collected by a lot of resto places.
I am going to gather as much as I can on my own, and combine it with data collected by homies, co-workers, worldwide car mates, etc and use it to do better resto/mod work on my own and to share with people to help with any of their resto and mod work.
