Knowing what to do in the moments after an earthquake can make all the difference.
Keep these steps in mind:
• Check yourself for injuries before helping others
• If you are in a damaged building, get outside and move away from it immediately
• Do not re-enter damaged buildings
• Expect aftershocks to follow the initial quake
• Once safe, tune in to local news via a battery-powered radio, TV, or cell phone alerts for official updates

Lithium-ion batteries can be a hidden fire hazard in your home if they’re not used or stored properly.
FEMA recommends following manufacturer instructions, unplugging devices once they’re fully charged, and avoiding prolonged exposure to heat. For safe storage, keep batteries in a cool, dry place ideally between 68-77°F and out of direct sunlight.
