Camping tip!
When you don’t have a mallet or hatchet to drive your stakes… use a flat faced rock. Watch your fingers! When you feel any resistance in the soil remove the stake and try another angle or another spot. It’s not worth bending your stakes over.
If I am backpacking into a place I know has plenty of rocks I don’t bother packing a hammer and the extra weight. A rock always works.
