For this patient, Dr. Balhoff used a Rapid Palatal Expander (RPE) to widen her narrow palate and create the space needed for her permanent teeth. Once the foundation was in place, braces aligned her crowded, crooked teeth into a healthy, beautiful smile.

Early orthodontic treatment can make a big difference. During Phase 1 treatment, Dr. Balhoff used a rapid palatal expander to achieve skeletal expansion of the upper jaw (maxilla), creating the space needed to correct this patient's narrow palate and anterior crossbite.
By addressing these concerns at the right time, we helped guide healthy jaw development, improve the bite, and create a stronger foundation for a beautiful, healthy smile as the permanent teeth continue to come in.
