Star-spangled news y'all! ❤️🤍💙 These two big ole trees at the Veteran's Park at Pontiac Point are now registered with the Live Oak Society! They are #10,715 and #10,716 - woah that's a whole lotta trees in Lafayette!

They are named, respectively, Major Fannie Griffin-McClendon (21.06 diameter) and Francis Benoit American Legion Post 504 (15.00 diameter).

As part of the Women's Army Corps (WAC), First Lieutenant Fannie Griffin McClendon was in the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, known as the “Six Triple Eight.” The 6888th was the only all-Black, all-female WAC battalion to serve overseas during World War II.

The local Francis Benoit American Legion Post 504 is the 2nd oldest American Legion Post in Louisiana.

Aren't they beautiful?!
