July is GBS Awareness month! Did you know that Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a common type of bacteria that many adults carry naturally without symptoms? During pregnancy, however, GBS can be passed to a baby during labor and delivery, which is why screening is an important part of prenatal care.

Most pregnant patients are tested for GBS between 36 and 37 weeks of pregnancy. If the test is positive, antibiotics given during labor can greatly reduce the risk of passing the bacteria to your baby.

Understanding your GBS status is one more way to help protect your newborn and support a healthy delivery.

Gracie has been a valued member of the Southern OBGYN team since November 2025, serving as one of our Receptionists. Originally from Taylor, Arkansas, she brings a warm smile, positive attitude, and caring spirit to our office every day.

One of the things Gracie loves most about working at Southern OBGYN is the opportunity to help people during such an important time in their lives. She enjoys building relationships with patients, staying busy, and working alongside coworkers she considers family.

Outside of work, Gracie enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, family, and friends, trying new restaurants, shopping, traveling, and soaking up the sunshine by the pool.
