A few more images from my time in Armand Serrano's environmental mentorship. There was a strong emphasis on using 3D tools to support rapid asset creation and future flexibility.
While the prior image was a piece of mood/key art, this second series was to build a functioning environment that could potentially support multiple scenes. Key art could be imagined from many angles here.
Some very primitive sculpting in Nomad for the ground structure, a few assets procured from Sketchfab, mainly the Mark 1 tank, and then line art overlay for detail and to unify elements. The final round was color + callouts.
This angle was referred to in critique as the 'Polly Pocket' view, which was just so funny to me. Growing up in the era of Micro Machines and Stephen Biesty's Cross-Sections books, I can see all the influence coming through.

My contribution to this year’s
Once again, my daughter Evy gets her top film pick—Avatar.
Thank you again Lodge Design, for your efforts in putting on the show.
It is a real treat to get a night out with my wife and have a great event to reconnect with dear friends, colleagues, and former students who have moved on to bring their own special voices into the world.

I recently learned about a prompt called , and I just love the idea.
I'm using it as an excuse to pull some more tractor bots from the archives. Midwest Sci-Fi lives on 🙂
Thanks, , for such a fun idea.
*and thanks to for bringing it to my attention. (Check out his astoundingly cool hard-surface modeling of machines)
