As many of you know one of my greatest passions in life is removing obstacles. I like to make observations, analyze what I observed and think through how to overcome it. To be honest this makes up the bulk of my professional career. Well today is no different. I face the challenge every day of convincing business owners that hiring a business consultant is worth their hard earned money. So why hire a consultant? First of all they bring fresh eyes to the organization. Similar to when you start a new job and question everything. Over time people become accustomed to that is how we do business and therefore do not see it as an obstacle. Second is experience. Unlike those that are blessed with a long career with a single firm, I have had the opportunity to work for several high caliber organization and have had some great mentors along the way giving me the skills to work problems from several points of view. And finally it’s the economics of it. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t spend $100 to make $1000. In a continuously improvement culture there is always the next obstacle.
