Sparkler Safety: They’re Hotter Than You Think!

Many people think sparklers are one of the safest fireworks—but they can burn at temperatures of 1,200°F to 2,000°F!

To put that into perspective, that’s hotter than:
* Boiling water – 212°F
* A cup of hot coffee – 160°F
* A typical house fire – 1,200°F
* Lava – 1,300–2,200°F
* The melting point of aluminum – 1,220°F
* The melting point of glass – about 1,400–1,600°F

At these temperatures, a sparkler can cause serious burns in a fraction of a second, especially to young children.

✅ Always supervise children around fireworks.
✅ Hold sparklers at arm’s length and away from your face and body.
✅ Never hand a lit sparkler to another person.
✅ Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby.
✅ Place used sparklers in water immediately after use—they remain extremely hot even after the sparks stop.

A safe celebration is the best celebration. Please help keep your family, friends, and neighbors safe this holiday by treating sparklers with the same respect you would any other fire source.

Knox County Rescue wishes everyone a safe and happy Independence Day!
