While there are a lot of videos on engine rebuilding available online, this doesn’t mean you should attempt it. After all, a lot of experience, skill, and special tools are needed for the job, so you should not proceed unless you really know what you’re doing.

When working on an engine with broken valves, the rebuilder will want to take a close look at the top surfaces of the pistons. Any marks or gouges on them will mean there was a collision between the pistons and valves, thus pointing towards a failure of the timing belt or chain.
