Next Lesson & Session: 12-1-21

Join us Wednesday for our weekly Folk Lesson & Session at Williams Hall from 6 - 9 pm. The evening is split into three portions:

* 6pm - 7pm Lesson: We're continuing to focus on teaching the skills that help musicians to "play by ear" and have fun playing in a group/jam setting. This week we will have the second in our series of lessons on how to hear what key is being played in, hearing chord changes and how to quickly play along with them.

* 7pm - 8pm Slow Session: During this hour, our motto is "No musician left behind". We'll warm up with some easy, humorous songs, then go 'round the circle and choose songs from the ones we already know. (See the "Repertoire" section of our website at www.FolkKeyWest.org/Repertoire ) We'll keep a relaxed pace so that everyone can enjoy playing along. Since it's the holiday season, we'll also learn to play a few new songs, Christmas Island (a great song for ukulele!), Let it snow ("somewhere else!") and the Gloucestershire Wassail (hey, who doesn't like a good drinking song?!) . This is a great time to share your favorites from your traditions with all of us.

* 8pm - 9pm 'round the Circle: During the last hour of the evening, we'll move to a faster pace and free-form style. Feel free to call out any tune or song you like as we go 'round the circle, not just the ones in our existing repertoire. This is the part of the evening where students can practice the skills they learned in the first hour on how to play up-to-speed and participate in an acoustic jam. The faster pace and variety of this hour also lets more experienced musicians find some challenges that help to hone their skills.

Please drop us a note if you're attending for the first time, and/or if you're planning on attending the 6pm class. (We want to know how many class handouts to print.)

Best regards,

Jeff and Rachel

Join us this Thursday 10/28 at 7:00 for another evening of home made music at Williams Hall.

This week we are featuring a Bahamian folk song that is familiar to almost everyone, yet you thought it was a pop/rock song from the early 60's. (the attached photo is a hint) In addition to learning to play it, you will learn the lost lyrics that make the whole thing make sense. We will also revisit the Irish jigs and fiddle tunes we started learning last week and, as always, bring a song or tune that you want to share as we go 'round the circle.

Full details are on our website at www.FolkKeyWest.org

See you there!

To all attending this evening's Folk Lesson & Session,
I'm looking forward to meeting you all, and an evening of fun and music. Our entrance to Williams Hall is the small door on the side street (William St.), not the big wooden doors. You'll see a sign with our Folk Key West logo on it.

See you there!

Jeff
