Today was a heartbreaking day at Gilbert’s Resort. 🦅
One of the ospreys who lived on the island here was found lifeless after apparently striking the rocks near the shoreline while diving for fish.
What makes this even harder is that his mate and their babies are still here at the nest overlooking Gilbert’s.
For months, they’ve been part of life on this little island — soaring over the marina, diving for fish, and watching over the water every single day. Guests photographed them constantly, and many of us looked for them every morning without even realizing it had become part of our routine.
Nature is beautiful, but sometimes painfully cruel too.
We’re especially heartbroken knowing his mate and their babies are here waiting for him.
Rest easy, island guardian. 🌴
