The story goes that my Grandfather (Abuelo Mario) wanted to be a Judge like his father was in Cuba. His father advised him that he should be a Doctor instead. The reason? The law is different in every country but if you are a doctor you can take care of people anywhere in the world. With the political situation in Cuba this was Sage guidance as years later my grandfather found himself relocating to another country with his wife and 5 daughters looking to start from scratch.

Over 60 years later his grandson is a 3rd generation physician continuing to put this theory to the test. I was always told that when you take care of other people they will always take care of you. You can find yourself on the edge of the earth and people will provide you food, water, and shelter.

I have been provided with that and so much more along my journey. There is nothing more gratifying in life than being able to be there for someone when they need you the most.

When armed with the skills to handle whatever life throws at you, skills honed through years of study, practice, and real life experiences… you can make a real difference. It’s never about saying thank you, I always say just pay it forward. I feel fortunate to be there when tragedy strikes and help a friend or a stranger in need. To be in a position to help others is a blessing in itself.
