I have been making my kids sensory bins since my oldest was about 15 months old. I know it sounds dramatic but this simple activity has saved our day MANY, MANY times. You know when you just wish your kids would play with ANYTHING for more than 5 seconds?! My kids have spent hours playing with them and years later they are just as much of a hit as they were on day one.
