On this day in 1980, Jackson Browne’s *Hold Out* debuted at No. 69 on the UK Albums Chart.

Released as his sixth studio album, *Hold Out* became Browne’s only album to reach No. 1 on the US *Billboard* albums chart. It also peaked at No. 6 in Australia and Canada, No. 10 in Norway, No. 12 in Sweden, No. 15 in New Zealand, No. 25 in the Netherlands, and No. 44 in the UK.

For years, fans speculated that “That Girl Could Sing” was inspired by either Laura Nyro or Linda Ronstadt. In 2017, Browne revealed that the song was actually written about his former backing singer Valerie Carter, admitting there had been a time when he was “just crazy about her.”

Another deeply personal track, “Of Missing Persons,” was written for Inara George, the daughter of Browne’s close friend and songwriting collaborator Lowell George, who had died the previous year. The title was inspired by a line from Little Feat’s “Long Distance Love.”

On this day in 1975, Stevie Nicks made her debut with Fleetwood Mac.

The band’s self-titled tenth album, often known as *The White Album*, was the first to feature both Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, introducing the lineup that would soon define Fleetwood Mac’s most successful era.

Featuring classics like “Rhiannon,” “Landslide,” and “Say You Love Me,” the album marked the beginning of one of rock’s most iconic chapters — just two years before *Rumours* changed everything.

The fact that this actually happened is still insane — and absolutely incredible.

Two years ago today, Cypress Hill performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, fulfilling a prophecy from *The Simpsons* episode “Homerpalooza,” which aired 28 years earlier. đŸ€Ż

Nobody knew they needed this—but punk fans absolutely did. đŸ€Ż

Green Day, blink-182, and Rancid are coming together in an unexpected way.

Billie Joe Armstrong, Travis Barker, and Tim Armstrong have formed a new supergroup called Cretin Family to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ramones’ legendary self-titled debut album.

The one-night-only lineup will also include former Ramones bassist CJ Ramone, with additional special guests expected to join the celebration.

Tim Armstrong described the Ramones as his favorite band of all time and said he could not wait to perform their timeless songs alongside CJ, Travis, and Billie.

Billie Joe also reflected on the band’s lasting influence, noting that the spirit of the Ramones can still be heard in punk clubs, festivals, and backyard shows around the world—even among young musicians who may not yet realize where that influence began.

The special performance will take place at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where Dee Dee Ramone is buried and a memorial statue honors guitarist Johnny Ramone.

A historic tribute to one of the most influential bands punk rock has ever produced.

THE WORLD BLAMED YOKO. GEORGE HARRISON SAW A MUCH BIGGER STORY.

For years, the breakup of the Beatles was reduced to one simple explanation: Yoko Ono entered the picture, and the band fell apart. George Harrison never believed it was that simple.

He remembered a group already straining under the weight of its own success. Lennon and McCartney remained the dominant songwriters, while George’s growing collection of compositions struggled to find space on Beatles albums. He once joked that he would have needed a hundred records to release them all—and there was more truth in that remark than humor.

George acknowledged that much of his musical frustration involved Paul McCartney, but the problems went far beyond any one relationship. Fame, business disputes, Apple, relentless media attention, and four men evolving in different directions had been pulling the band apart for years.

History often looks for a single villain.

George Harrison offered a more complicated truth: sometimes a great band does not end because one person walks into the room. Sometimes the people inside it simply outgrow the world they created together.

đŸŽ¶ On July 11, 1966, Elvis Presley received a special visitor on the set of *Double Trouble*: fellow music legend Jackie Wilson.

Known as “Mr. Excitement,” Wilson was one of the most electrifying performers of his generation. His powerful voice, dramatic stage presence, and influence on rhythm and blues, soul, and rock and roll helped secure his place among the greats of American music.

Years later, after Wilson suffered a serious medical emergency while performing in New Jersey on September 29, 1975, Elvis reportedly sent financial help toward his hospital and medical expenses.

It was a quiet gesture of support that reflected Elvis’s compassion for a fellow entertainer during a difficult time.
