Seismic MicroBrewers
We frequently engage in beer tastings, pub crawls, as well as brewing our own beer for special events and just plain fun.
It's been awhile since I brewed. I still have a keg of bock which is ageing nicely, one of Foreign Extra Stout, reminiscent of the stout I had in Jamaica. I also have two kegs of cider, one regular and another hopped with a hop with fruity tropical flavor.
My beer room is still stocked with dozens of boxes of mead and barley wine aging nicely.

I started this group as a way to spread knowledge of the brewing art back when I worked for Seismic Micro Technology. We held brew days made batches of beer to share and socialized. I let the club lapse when I was approached to join a new brew club in Katy, Tx. I refused to join a club back in the 1990's when I moved to Houston, since to me they were like joining a church. A lot of it was about money and ego and not so much beer per se.
I like the new club initially because it was a social club. Then they got organized and became like all the others. A small cabal of people hijacked the intent of the club and it's emphasis changed to competition. That's great if you're into that. I wasn't. I know what I like and brew it.
I realized my dues were all going to subsidize the cost of members entering into contests.to hang medals on their walls.
There was not emphasis on teaching new folks how to brew, just polishing egos by winning contests or moving up the ladder of judges.
Now and then I see people dropping in. If you are interested in information on brewing or want to come by on a brew day, drop me a message.
Haven't done much since the Pig Roast. Plan on brewing in a few weeks, too much going on with the bathroom remodeling. Then comes the Beer Trek to California.
Its approaching that time of year again. Target date of the picnic if it happens this year is March 31. With the acquisition of SMT by IHS, there has been a shuffling of assignments with regard to marketing promotions. The new person is not an old SMT hand, shows little interest in pursuing the event. So stay tuned.
If any of you are interested in brewing, let me know. I will be running two brew days where we brew two beers each day. I could do them back to back, Saturday and Sunday, or on two different weekends. In the event, I will be using my new brew rig, which makes things a big easier.
Cheers
Keith
I got my new system in and will be plumbing up the pump over the next few weeks. My son is coming into town today so won't get much done.
Brewing Monday. Will probably make a wheat beer.

I will probably be brewing this weekend. No my new system is not in yet, but I decided not to waste a long weekend. I will post the day and time here if you want to drop by.
Our four beers are now crash cooling, I'll rack them to clean kegs this weekend and start carbonating them.

Just ordered my new brew stand. It will be in stainless steel, with pump, control panel and thermonator mount.
I'll transfer the rye IPA as soon as I have a free keg then crash cool it too for a week before transferring to kegs for carbonation.
