Tomorrow we celebrate Independence Day. Tonight, we want to pause and say something we don't say often enough.

Some of the men and women living in our homes once wore the uniform. They served this country before any of us knew their names. Now we are the ones who get to know them, the stories they tell, the songs that still make them sit up a little straighter.

We do not ask anyone to forget what they did. We build a home around remembering it. 16 residents per home means staff who know a veteran's story is not a footnote. It is part of who he is.
