MaKenna Long got behind the wheel as a rookie driver at the age of 6. In her first year she received rookie of the year and most improved driver. In her second year as a Jr Honda driver she finished the season 2nd in points for Friday nights and 5th in points for Saturdays. She also won the Jr Honda 100 lap feature to bring home a 5 ft trophy. Just a sneak peek of what's to come for the 2023 season. 🫣
Well last night just wasn't our night. The car was very off during qualifying. After a few adjustments it was heat race time. Car seemed to be better but 3 laps in she broke out of her time(which means she went to far under her qualifying time) and got black flagged. Come feature time we thought we the car was fixed but not so much. After 2 spins and a pit stop to try and make adjustments she decided to just pull in and call it a night. Driver was disappointed but better to pull off the track then to wreck yourself or someone else .
Post race Kenna meet a young lady who wanted to have her picture taking with a girl racer .The little girl was so excited! While waiting in the pay out line Kenna saw the girl back in the pits. Kenna ran to the trailer to grab an autograph card . The little girls face lit up when she handed it to her . I think she has a new fan for life :)
That little girl didn't care that Kenna didn't finish the race all she cared about was meeting her new favorite racer. Drivers just remember no matter how bad of a day you had on the track there is probably some little kid watching you and looking up to you.So remember to keep your emotions in check.
