The proposed U.S. House Farm Bill contains two hidden provisions that would heavily favor pesticide manufacturers at the expense of public health.

By September 30, 2025, Congress must vote on a new Farm Bill. In the House’s version:
	•	Section 10204 would grant pesticide companies immunity from lawsuits over any harm or health problems caused by their chemicals.
	•	Sections 10204 & 10205 would strip away state and local governments’ ability to regulate pesticide use or require more safety disclosures.

Right now, more than 40 states limit pesticide spraying near schools to protect children. The Environmental Working Group found over 4,000 elementary schools within 200 feet of crop fields where pesticides are applied and that’s not even counting middle schools, high schools, parks, or playgrounds. This bill would erase those protections and prevent new safeguards from being created.

Why would lawmakers support this? Follow the money. House Agriculture Committee Chair Glenn Thompson received $25,000 from three of the four largest agrochemical corporations. Senate Agriculture Chair John Boozman took in $47,250 from Syngenta, Bayer, and BASF. With both committee heads aligned with chemical manufacturers, these provisions could keep protections rolled back until at least 2029.

Agrochemical companies are also lobbying states hoping one will pass a liability immunity law to set a precedent nationwide. If they succeed, it could mark one of the most alarming public health setbacks in decades, leaving farm workers, children, and communities more vulnerable than ever.
