Daughter: I bought two 24” throw pillow inserts. Could you make me some covers? I’d like any combination of cream, yellow, and/or dusty blue.

Me: Can do!

Creative process:
πŸ’› Ugh, aloha shirts and even muumuus don’t have enough fabric for two matching pillow covers of this size.
πŸ’› Weeks of thrifting to find inspiration without luck.
πŸ’› Find lovely organic cotton blanket in a warm cream. Okay, not my normal medium but meets her request.
πŸ’› Make pillow cover. Nice.
πŸ’› Oooo, let’s try weaving and sewing strips of the blanket together to make a matching bowl.
πŸ’› Put off making second cover because it just isn’t as fun for me as working with aloha prints.
πŸ’› Learn to add zipper opening to pillow covers instead of the envelope opening I have been using because it makes both sides of the cover useful. Make a couple covers not for my daughter.
πŸ’› Decide scrapping together strips of fabrics is a great way to make new fabrics. Make a couple covers not for my daughter.
πŸ’› Realize I may have enough scraps in daughter’s color preferences to make pillows with blanket on one side and aloha print on the other using my two new techniques.
πŸ’› Fricken’ love the results. Quickly make two covers.
πŸ’› Have leftover strips so make her dog a matching collar and bandanna.
πŸ’› Have still a wee bit left so make her a matching scrunchie.
πŸ’› Realize no care package from mom is complete without li hing strawberry belts.
πŸ’› Final step, find a box for this stuff and make my way to the post office. My least favorite part. Wish me luck!
