Misfit Preachers
In our journeys, we often face the heavy burden of choices that lead to profound pain and isolation. A recent letter illuminated this heartbreaking reality, detailing the anguish of a fallen leader who now grapples with the aftermath of his actions. A respected pastor, author, and denominational leader for over three decades, he found himself exposed by his son-in-law’s discovery of a sinful history long kept hidden. In an instant, his world unraveled—his wife left, his children turned away, and his church expelled him, stripping him of his identity and community.
Loneliness envelops him now, echoing through his empty apartment, a stark contrast to a life once filled with purpose and connection. While he clings to Jesus, grateful for forgiveness, the weight of loss is overwhelming. His poignant plea for prayer reflects the need for compassion, reminding us all of the fragility of trust and relationship. We must engage with empathy and understanding, recognizing that we too can falter and fall.
Let us hold space for those who experience such heartache and seek to uplift them as they strive for redemption amid the wreckage. May we remember that grace can emerge even from the depths of despair.
When we fall the last place many people want to be is in church. It's not just about the fear of judgment; it's about the all-too-common reality of witnessing churches 'shoot their wounded' when a leader falls. Instead of compassion and support, many find themselves facing condemnation and isolation. This culture of blame can push the broken away from the very place designed to offer healing and grace. It’s a reminder that even within sacred spaces, we must strive to nurture understanding and forgiveness, allowing for redemption instead of rejection.
Grace flips the script. Jesus didn’t roll with the elite; He went straight to the misfits, the ones who felt out of place in the back of the room. Forgiveness and mercy aren’t earned by being “good”—they’re gifts for all, especially the broken. When we grasp that grace covered our mess, we’re freed to love the overlooked and invite them close. God’s table isn’t for the perfect; it’s for the hungry. Let’s leave the seats of honor and sit where Jesus would—right with them.
I grew up thinking my dad abandoned me. I found out later, he was paid to leave. That realization shattered me—and saved me. Divorce rewrites childhood memories. Sometimes grace means reading the fine print.

He told me, “It’s too late.” I told him, “You just wrote the first line of your letter.” Grace begins where regret admits it waited too long—and speaks anyway.

Not all stories tie up in this life. Some daughters don’t call. Some wounds don’t heal. But grace still finds a way to meet us where we are—even if the ending stays broken.

Grace isn’t always dramatic. Sometimes it’s your grandkids laughing, your wife accepting you, your kids dancing on a beach. Grace shows up subtle—but it shows up.

In my divorce I lost everything. Friends. Family. Myself. But in the quiet, something shifted. Isolation became solitude. And solitude was where God whispered, “I’m still here.”

Some grace doesn’t come lightly sprinkled. It soaks deep through pressure and heat. Divorce was my pressure cooker—and somehow, God seasoned even that with mercy.
