Meet Sydney Whitaker, a beautiful 9-year-old from Jupiter, Florida, who has been bravely battling brain cancer. For the past eight months since her diagnosis, Sydney has been undergoing chemotherapy and enduring invasive surgeries to remove a brain tumor almost the size of a golf ball. When she awoke from one of these surgeries, it was evident that she had suffered facial paralysis. Doctors informed the Whitaker family that Sydney would require a facial nerve reanimation procedure to regain movement on the right side of her face and restore her smile.

To perform this specialized surgery in Boston, Sydney needed approval from her oncologist and had to schedule the procedure within a critical window dictated by her blood counts and the timing since the onset of paralysis. As Sydney is currently undergoing chemotherapy, is immunocompromised, and has recently been hospitalized due to low blood counts, commercial travel was not a safe option. Recognizing these challenges, Goose Flights stepped in and safely transported Sydney and her parents to Boston, where she will undergo the facial nerve reanimation procedure to bring back her beautiful smile! 😃
