On August 21, 2017, North America experienced its first total solar eclipse in 99 years. As the moon passed in front of the sun, it cast a shadow up to 70 miles wide that sped from the north Pacific ocean to the south Atlantic in about 3 hours. Anyone its path from Oregon to South Carolina experienced about three hours of partial eclipse and two minutes of totality.
