Ash Grove Farm LLC
On two-thirds of an acre in Village Center zoning, we raise 95% of the vegetables we consume and quite a lot of fruit, starch, and protein we need. Chickens and turkeys range freely through rotating pastures. The sheep spend the winter (including lambing season) at home, with access to a barn and large barnyard. April through November, they mow neighbors' lawns while the barnyard at home grows fee

This lamb's inexperienced mama didn't know what to do with her newborn, so it took another species (well, two actually) to step in and do the job. Later, when the lamb was clean, warm, and dry, her mom took her back and let her nurse, despite the lamb smelling oddly doggish.

An August surprise! Welcome to the world, little Libra! (No, she's not a Libra, but this year's naming theme was Space....)

Scary time! I never know if walking up the road to the next pasture with no fences to contain the sheep will go well or not. This particular time, things did not go well. Welley, the herding dog, did great at first, but the sheep did not cooperate! Instead of staying with me, close to the source of yummy treats I had for them, they surged ahead and had to be brought back by the dog. Finally, they couldn't stand the pressure any longer and they took off for a neighbor's back yard. Meanwhile, the young herding dog lost his head and decided to play billiards with the sheep. (Look, Mom! I can make them EXPLODE! Whee!) In the end, the sheep ended up in their new paddock, safe and sound, but it took some work. More of the same tomorrow. I have no idea how it'll go....
