Local legend says that when this English Tudor rose above Port Washington's harbor in 1917, it began life as a hunting lodge, a gathering place in the Gold Coast years, where long evenings played out between two wood-burning fireplaces under hand-hewn beams.

But stand inside it, half-timbering, steep gables, beams cut by hands that are long gone, and you'll understand why the story never died.
