I'm an imperfect mom of two girls and my mission is to share my family's journey in a vulnerable, authentic way that brings comfort and joy to all moms who need it, while also creating awareness about issues that are close to my heart.

The weather is getting warmer, the sun is shining and school is almost out! This is probably my favorite time of the year with the anticipation of all the fun things we can do outdoors for the next few months and I've curated a list of some of my fave fun-tastic, budget-friendly family activities to consider. Even if you're not an outdoorsy family or it's raining, I've added a few activities you can enjoy at home as well that you might love. Some of the things on my list are pretty basic but maybe you've forgotten how entertaining they can be, so take a look, get inspired and make some memories!

1. Indoor or outdoor game day or night: If you're looking to stay
in, dust off your favorite board and card games and make
some yummy snacks to keep on the table. If no one wants to
do that, how about an indoor scavenger hunt? What kid
doesn't love a good hunt?? Even better, have it outside and
get really creative with it! If you still want something different,
how about picking up a basic co****le set (about $35-$65 for
the inexpensive ones) or horseshoes or a ring toss set (you
can find either for about $50)?
2. Pickleball! It's all the rage now and what a fun family activity!
You can either play at a local, public tennis court or if you are
lucky enough to have a pickleball facility near you, do it! The
place closest to me costs $45 for court rental and you can
pick up a 4-person paddle/ball set for about $30.
3. Pack up some food and have a picnic at your favorite park,
followed by scooter riding (or just exploring the park if you
there are no scooters for rent near you). My kiddos had
their own scooters, so we took theirs and rented scooters for
my husband and me.
4. Make some goofy family TikTok videos! I don't know about
you but my teen is obsessed with them and she loves it
when I'll do one with her. Kids have the best time when
parents will get silly with them. Everyone's stomachs will hurt
from laughing!
5. Have a family cookout where each family member gets to
choose a food item they want to eat and they either make
that food or help you make it. Getting everyone involved in
the process involves creativity and learning and in such a fun
way.
6. Go fishing at a local pond or lake. Even if the whole family
isn't down for baiting a hook, they can still enjoy the rest of
the process. There's something so thrilling about catching
your first fish! My husband started taking our kids when they
were pretty little and they still love it so much. Such great
memories!
7. Play frisbee and/or go kite-flying at your favorite park. This is
something we did during COVID and we really had the best
time. We had a ton of laughs while learning how to throw a
frisbee.
8. Pack up some blankets, pillows and snacks (or grab some fast
food) and head out to a drive-in movie. Some of my favorite
memories are from drive-in movie night. There's just nothing
like it!
9. Take a shelter dog out for a day of fun! There are so many
sweet, deserving and lonely shelter dogs out there waiting
for a fur-ever home and if you can't adopt, how about
giving one dog the best day they've ever had in their whole
life, as well as hope that they may not have had before, will
surely be a day none of you will forget.
10. Go for a leisurely hike. This is one of those tried-and-true
things we've certainly loved in the past but sometimes don't
think about. You don't have to climb treacherous mountains
or anything like that. Sometimes you can find easy, family-
friendly trails that are more about exploring nature than
anything.
11. Make homemade vanilla ice cream (you can find very simple
recipes on Pinterest that don't even require an ice cream
maker), homemade popcorn or even pizza and have a family
movie night at home. To make it even more fun, make a little
ice cream topping bar or a popcorn topping bar. Get
creative with it and see how much fun everyone has!

So there you have it! There are so many ways to have tons of family fun whether it's indoors or out. I hope you found something that intrigues you and if you have a cool idea, I'd love to hear about it and I may even share it here!

This was the most difficult post I’ve made yet because I’m so raw and vulnerable right now but I’m committed to bringing awareness about this disorder, so I felt compelled. There is so much judgement and misunderstanding around PDA kids and they deserve better. So do parents! If you want to learn more, please visit pdanorthamerica.org.

Creative Holiday Gift List for Kids in 2024 10/28/2024

Like most parents this time of year, I'm sometimes at a loss for gift ideas (that is if they haven't given me a 5 page list of crazy requests), so I have to start doing research before it's too late. This year, my oldest daughter has produced said list for me but with my youngest, it's a little harder. She often has one or two ideas but not usually anything she's "dying" for and that's probably a good thing!...
