TORNADO WATCH IN EFFECT

The National Weather Service, Peachtree City, issued a tornado watch for Pickens County at 6:47 EDT this date. The tornado watch is in effect until 2:00 AM EDT. Please remain aware of the weather conditions and have a plan in place to seek shelter if needed.

The National Weather Service is forecasting the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms several days this week. Currently, Pickens County has been included in a Level 1 of 5 risk of severe weather early Tuesday. Several rounds of thunderstorms are currently expected over the next few days. Potential hazards include wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail up to one inch and tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Timing: early Tuesday morning, early Wednesday morning and possibly Wednesday afternoon. Be prepared by having a way to get warnings during hours of sleep, have a family plan to take shelter if a warning is issued or severe weather observed and if you live in a mobile home, make plans to take shelter in a substantial structure.
