The sea shifted to the Southeast corner of Texas, and the shoreline oscillated back and forth so that the area was occasionally covered by shallow seas, but at other times it was dry land. It is, by far, the most catastrophic extinction on record. When the seas receded, limestone platforms were exposed to air and elements, causing extensive erosion to the Edwards Plateau during the Cretaceous period 65 million years ago. These Cretaceous Limestone deposits offer some of the World’s most exquisite and unique limestone.
