Happy Hump Day!! How are you getting over the hump?

Upholstery was a small part in helping to rebuild after hurricane Helene hit the Gulf Coast of Florida in September 2024. When a house floods from a hurricane, it doesn’t just bring salt water. It brings raw sewage into a home. This leaves the home in devastation, and the people living in it homeless. This was the case for my customer in New Port Richey - not just any customer, my cousin. My cousin was homeless until March 2025, needing to stay nearby while her home was rebuilt, relying on the kindness of others to take her in along with her dogs. A community of people supporting each other, all suffered the same fate. 2 feet of water and sewage destroys everything walls, appliances, cabinets, furniture, vehicles, and memories. Some things were able to be saved and disinfected. Her rattan framed furniture was able to be salvaged. Consisting of two couches, four dinette chairs, and a Papasan chair. To do our small part in getting her back to normal, we said we would make all new cushions for the same furniture. Living four hours away, at the end of March, we packed up everything we needed to pattern, take measurements, bring fabric samples to get her home back together. When we were done we had measurements and patterns for 18 cushions, five throw pillows, and love was all we could do to somehow help undo the trauma.

Crypton fabric line was what I suggested to give her a luxurious feel with performance capabilities. We created all of the cushions with Crypton fabrics, even made a sofa runner for the seat cushions for her to rattan sofas to protect it from the dogs. The great thing about Crypton is that it’s cleanable, which was appealing to her. She’s thrilled with her living room and breakfast area. We’re just happy she’s home. There are still many of her neighbors that are months from being back in their homes. After all…There’s No Place Like Home.
