I received this email this morning. Transformation. This is my why! A bit ( less than a sentence) of the message has been removed for context.
Hi Terry,
Earlier today someone posted a tweet that meant to capture the sentiment of a reflective monologue. I can't find it now, but the premise was that this woman had just moved into her own and new living situation. In a singular restful moment she articulates having a conversation with her younger self in the bathroom mirror, in which the younger version of her says simply, "This us?" To which she replies, "Yep, this is us." Of course, I can't find it now to share with you - but I will look for it to share because it recalled so much of our work together of which I am so appreciative and proud.
I look back and think about the formative moments that inspired and promoted my own change, and I want you to know how impactful you have been in my life. Our time together granted me the confidence and perspective to achieve the goals I had only imagined were within my grasp.
In our time together, I gained confidence to make a difficult decision about my personal life that was holding me back from my true self and potential. Since then, I have approached relationships with a newfound perspective of partnership and respect that is directly related to this confidence. I am happy, free, and loved in terms that I can and will articulate freely. In so many ways, your gift of mentorship and coaching continually inspires the leadership I hope to embody in my professional life, and the person I strive to be every morning outside of work.
As you recall during our sessions, I also was promoted and have stepped into the role of people manager (of now a team of 10!) and a member of our Executive Team. I am humbled and overwhelmingly grateful for the means by which you embraced my personal vulnerability and allowed it to serve as a foundation for authentic leadership. This balance of power and person is a unique strength that I honed through your coaching and perspective, and it makes me a unique leader in the corporate world. You allowed me to see the strength in my own authenticity and power that has advanced my career and my life in meaningful ways.
I think of you often, and hope one day our paths cross again. The impact you have had on my life has been invaluable and I could never speak more highly of our time and experience together.

Leaders, are you bringing healthy or unhealthy conflict to your team? Conflict is inevitable. Bring ALL of the players to the table to create psychological safety, trust, demonstrate value of differences, cohesion, and win-win problem solving. When leadership teams avoid conflict by defaulting to side bar discussions and excluding crucial team members they damage trust and team cohesion for EVERYONE, not just the person being excluded. Leaders develop team norms as they move through conflict so they need to be smart about it. Managing conflict is painful. Managing conflict poorly is extremely painful. Value differences. Don’t throw your teammates under the bus.
