I always enjoy speaking with the Onslow County Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy. It's a great program. Kudos to Sheriff Chris Thomas for starting it.

Three years ago Chief Justice Newby gave me the oath of office to be a Superior Court Judge. I am incredibly grateful to hold this position and stand on the shoulders of many who helped to make me who I am. I am a millionaire in friends and grateful for each of you.

With my colleague Special Superior Court Judge Hoyt Tessener. We are two of about 120 in the state, so when we're not in a very populated county we're usually by ourselves. Always great to be with a colleague, especially one as experienced in court as Hoyt.

Last week ended a three week murder trial over which I presided in Brunswick County. I've had the privilege to hold court there a number of times since I've been on the bench and have bee impressed with the folks with whom I've worked there.
