Founded in the autumn of 2000, by a grant from the Ford Foundation, the Southern Rural Black Women's Initiative for Economic and Social Justice (SRBWI), works with women in 77 counties the United States Department of Agriculture has designated persistently poor for more than two decades in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. As we observe Juneteenth, Freedom Day, we pledge to remain steadfast in our dedication to the fight for freedom.
Today, we pay tribute to the ancestors who have fought on our behalf and stand together with them. We reflect on our progress and look forward to the journey ahead.
