June marks the first ever National Free Outdoor Concerts Month!

In Downtown Jackson, we’re celebrating with a FREE concert this Sunday at St. Andrews Episcopal Cathedral with the New Bourbon Street Jazz Band!

The Levitt Family Foundation launched this nationwide celebration of the power of free, live music in public spaces throughout the month of June, inviting more people to experience the joy of building community through music.

Celebrate along with us and the national Levitt network of venues and concert sites and see the positive impact when concerts are free and open to everyone.

Step back into 1920s Downtown Jackson! This historic image shows the Union Hotel, which stood directly across Mill Street from the Illinois Central Railroad Depot. Originally built in the 1880s as The Lawrence House, the hotel welcomed travelers arriving by rail for decades.

Note the Post Office and Lunch Room on the ground floor—a reminder of the bustling activity that once filled this corner of downtown.

Today, the site is a vacant lot, waiting for its next chapter. Who knows? It may one day be reincarnated as Downtown Jackson’s next treasure. What would you love to see rise on this historic site?
