As Engineers Week comes to close, we wanted to share a fun activity that took place at a local Cheyenne elementary school this week.

🦌As part of the UW Outreach Program, engineers are invited to third grade classrooms to do a hands-on engineering exercise with the students. This year’s exercise involved building a model overpass for wildlife crossing over a highway. The activity utilized a kit of materials provided by the outreach program to each classroom. We had the opportunity to explain a bit about the engineering thought process and then turned the students loose in groups of four. They were to plan on paper, build the overpass, and then we load tested each overpass.

Y2 has many engineers today that remember similar activities from their younger days. And we hope that it sparked some interest in the profession to future generations.
