Proud moment for Jackson State University and an even prouder moment for the Tiger Battalion!

Jackson State University has been recognized as a Gold-Level 2026-2027 Military Friendly® School, but what caught my eye immediately was the face representing this achievement—our very own Army ROTC Cadet, Buyuna Carter.

As a first-generation college student, active service member, and future leader, Cadet Carter continues to represent the very best of what it means to serve, lead, and excel. Seeing one of our cadets highlighted on the cover of this recognition is a testament to the dedication, resilience, and excellence found within the Tiger Battalion.

Congratulations to Cadet Carter and to Jackson State University for this well-deserved recognition. We are proud to see our students leading from the front and making an impact both on campus and in service to our nation.

What an incredible night at our 1st Combined Annual Spring Military Gala!

This event was truly a success and a testament to the strength of our partnership. While Jackson State and Alcorn will always carry that competitive rivalry, this gala proved that when it comes to ROTC, we are one team—committed to developing the next generation of Army leaders.

We were honored to have COL Don Hursey as our guest speaker, who delivered a powerful and impactful message that resonated with both our cadets and guests.

A special thank you to our alumni for your continued support—your presence and investment mean everything as we continue to grow.

Special thanks to Terry High School JROTC Color Guard.

Kudos to PMS MAJ Justin Smith for his leadership and vision in building and shaping this program for years to come.

Most importantly, we are extremely proud of our cadets. From planning to ex*****on, this was a cadet-led event, showcasing their ability to lead, coordinate, and execute a formal military program with excellence. And they looked amazing doing it!

This is just the beginning.

Sunday Spotlight | Excellence in Action

Jackson State University Army ROTC proudly recognizes CPT Crimson Driver (LG), MVSU/JSU Satellite, YG20 on his recent graduation from the U.S. Army Ranger School—one of the most demanding leadership courses in the Army.

His achievement reflects exceptional discipline, resilience, and commitment to excellence. Ranger School tests leaders to their limits, and CPT Driver rose to the challenge, earning the Ranger Tab and joining a distinguished group of leaders who lead from the front.

We also want to recognize CPT Thad McClinton (IN), MVSU, YG17, a 2018 Ranger School graduate, who showed unwavering support by being there for CPT Driver during this milestone moment. This is what leadership and mentorship look like—lifting others as you climb.

From our satellite programs to the force, our alumni continue to set the standard and represent what it means to be Army Strong.

Tiger Battalion is proud.
