Northeast Elementary PTO
Good mornig Junior Viking friends,
Yesterday I promised you an Ode to Laura but I'd like to retitle it to Ode to Bill and Laura. I came to NE in 2006 and became a parent volunteer at kindergarden breakfast. I remember meeting Bill and Laura at the annual Spagetti Dinner Dance in February. This couple was just about the warmest and gracious people I had ever met. And laughter just bubbled out of them. Since that time I've been lucky enough to become friends with this family and watch their daughter blossom into an incredible young lady. Bill and Laura's tireless volunterism is unparrelled. If one can't do it, the other can, or they both just show up, FOR EVERYTHING! The work that Laura has done as the PTO Secretary is unbelievable. She implemented this FB page, she formated a user friendly newsletter, she planned our PTO Welcomes for parents coming to their kids Halloween and Valentine's parties. These is just a few things that she has done, to many to list hear. So to paraphrase my friend...As this year draws to a close...it is with great sadness that the PTO says, "See you later Covey's, it's been great. We love you guys so much and you willl always be missed and are totally irreplacable."
On that note, I would love for everyone to share a story about the Coveys and how they touched your or your kids life.
Me first :D
My fondest memory of Laura actually happened a couple of years ago and I always giggle when I think of it:
Laura and I had met in the morning to make copies or something at school. When we were done we had a seat in the lobby at this wonderful 2 seater rocker that use to be there. We got to talking and laughing so hard we had tears rolling down our faces (yes, we laughed quietly, school was in seesion!). It got to the point that EVERYTHING made us laugh. Then here comes Mr. Jones, looking at us very peculiarly, asking if we were alright, in that Mr. Jones way. Well, we knew it was time to go then. Later, that rocker disappeared, and I can't help but think it was our fault. And I laugh again.
I love you, Laura
As the school year draws to a close, we find ourselves struggling with how to express our appreciation to the staff and teachers of Northeast. For the past eight years, we have been a part of this community – this family – that has not only provided our daughter with an education, but stimulated her mentally, challenged her physically, supported her emotionally and loved her unconditionally. Northeast has been a warm and nurturing place for her to grow as a person, develop leadership skills, strengthen her self-confidence and learn empathy for others. We are grateful not only for the opportunities she has had, but also for the experiences we have shared as parent volunteers. To support the work being done by the incredible staff has been an honor and a privilege. We have witnessed a level of compassion and commitment to the children of Northeast that is inspiring. Teachers and staff, what you do on a daily basis makes a real difference in the lives of our kids, our families and our community and you should be very proud. Any success our daughter enjoys in life will always have roots in the solid foundation she received at Northeast, so to simply say thank you seems woefully inadequate. The many happy memories we have of Northeast and the very special people we have met here from pre-school through sixth grade – teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and students – will remain in our hearts forever. We wish you all the very best and look forward to the day when our paths will hopefully cross again. With much love and gratitude from the Covey’s.
It's the last weekend of the school year ... how are you spending it?
Thank you to everyone who came out and shared some ice cream with us tonight! Special thanks to our volunteers and staff who helped serve and clean up. Hope you all had as much fun as we did :-)
