Pirates had one of the first forms of Gay marriage through Matelotage where two (or more) crew mates would contractually be the recipient of another crew mate’s personal possessions and personal affairs in the event of an untimely death. Also there has been several documented instances of Pirates, particularly female pirates, dressing up like and presenting as male both before and during their time pirating the high seas.
